MASH – “New” Water

I buy water. We all do, unfortunately.I do like the taste of “stuff” in my water though. Good, flavorful stuff. Light, clean refreshing stuff. Like lemon, ginger, blueberry, green tea. Just enough “umph” to satisfy my taste beyond the bland water, and ot too much that it overpowers the water with sugars and sweetners.waterLike the post below, I found the “NEW IT”while shopping at my favorite watering hole in Hoboken. Boylan Bottling’s MASH.No pictures to show, no website linkage available as it seems it is so new it was just released at a Fancy Foods Show this summer.

“The Boylan’s brand had several new things, with the most exciting being their new Mash line. “It’s not a soda, it’s not a water, it’s not a juice…it’s a mash” is how Ron Fiorina described it. The line has attributes borrowed from juice and and is sweetened with sucralose. Packaging is a proprietary 20 oz. bottle and will be available within the month.”

Secret Soft Drink?

Has anyone heard of Mash? In a era when bottles of water get their own MySpace page, it’s oddly refreshing to walk into a no-frills deli and spot a soft drink I haven’t seen before. But that’s what happened earlier today when I saw some appealingly chubby bottles of Mash, a new line by Boylan, at a deli called Food World (a favorite of Food & Wine‘s production department) in NYC’s midtown. The flavor I picked up—Lemon Peel Ginger Root—was slightly carbonated, slightly sweet, and altogether appealing, though I wish it had more zing. But the brand isn’t even listed on Boylan’s website. One hypothesis about the drink’s mysteriously low-key presence, by the Gotham City Insider blog: “It must be brand new or Boylan is keeping it secret for some reason.”

My favorite is Pomegranate BlueBerry. It has a little carbonation and a wonderful “fruit essence.” There are 20 ounces to the the bottle and its great in the gym!
