Weather Cannot be a Deterrent
By Gina Jackson • Feb 23rd, 2008 • Category: Features Don’t let the snow and weather of the season be a deterrent to your fitness activities if you are true to your healthy lifestyle fitness goals.
Yes, it might take a little more planning and attention in your drive, walk or commute to the fitness facility, but once you get there, the wonders of the work you will do for the hour or two spent can be blissful. At least, try to make it so!
For example, this past Friday morning, in the midst of the first “really big snow storm” of the 2008 Winter season, I first called ahead to make sure my instructor had made it into the studio. You see I have a regularly scheduled semi-private Pilates session with Alison in the 23rd Street, NYC Power Pilates studio.
Occassionally, I will follow the session with a 50-minute Mat Class (which she also happens to teach), that is, depending upon the day and activities planned. After an hour of Pilates with the equipment, you probably are a diehard or have a lot of energy to burn to take two back-back hours with a Senior Teacher. Nothing is basic and everything feels like good, hard work!
Since the weather was such a mish-mash-mosh on this particular Friday, as you can see from the heavy snow in the window, I did use the trek into the city to workout for the two hours that morning.
Others made it in, as NYC is never hit as hard as the suburbs with snow accumulation, so the studio slowly fills up.
Again, while the weather outside maybe be frightfully delightful, health, fitness and maintenance of the program cannot, should not and will not be deterred.
This image was taken at 10:00am, in the middle of the storm on my drive into the city for my morning workout. Pretty pleasant view of Braddock Park lake and the virgin snow in the middle of the storm.
