Spirited day and a spirited month. Denise and Mike finally joined us and Soni took Mahesh’s place; several were
missing in action, but the group that showed on the last full day of June’s Summer Fitness in the park were on!
We tried something new (a surefire repeat, I might add) Jumping Jacks with an ankle resistance band. Whew! Check the video.
Kick-ass workout today. Started at 830am in the gym with leg presses and I pumped up the volume to three plates. That means, ladies that I pressed 270 pounds for 20 reps about 4-5 sets. After which I worked my hamstrings, quads and adductors and abductors.
Then the best part, because of the 50 degree temperature of this sweet December, post-Christmas morning, was my 3.5 mile run outside in my Kangoo Jumps which people don’t seem to be surprised with anymore….I am just part of the woodwork and the shoes are the paint on my woodwork. Time to think about what you are doing and have done for the year. Time for Thanksgiving preparations and that means the Annual Thankful Hike in the Palisades to prepare your body for the delicate balance of holiday, life, food and exercise. For the past few years, (since 2003) I have been leading outdoor excursions along the Palisades just to clear my head and have invited everyone I know to join me, just for the fun of it. but we get up!” So says the gospel by Donnie McClurkin from a few years back. I quoted it in response to a client’s admission of falling off her regimen of a clean diet for the past three weeks. Read the rest of this entry →
I am so excited about joining up with this totally “old-skool” group of folks, dancing, playing, sweating and rollerskating/blading in Central Park.
You want a hard-core workout?! Try dancing and balancing on wheels while spinning yourself in circles. So good, so much fun, so much sweat, I am planning to make it a regular park of my workouts at least twice a month.
Check out the video (which btw, I was able to create exclusively from my new Google Android Updated 1.5 phone.) May not mean much to you, but to a geek like me, that is pretty darn nice!
Use the SLIDER and view the other embedded video/comments/notes inside the timeline and/or use the PLAY button and just watch!
These folks have been doing this for years. (You can tell when you start to talk to people, see the wisdom in the faces, grey in the hair and of course listen to the music….we are all over 45-50!)
More than a few are over 60, but you wouldn’t know it from the steps being taken, the splits made in mid-air and the ever-flowing energy all over the stage.
Most of us that pass by or watch from the sidelines secretly want in our hearts to have the courage, stamina or energy to join the group. This weekend I did. With my Google Phone Camera/Video (yeah for 1.5!). I am now planning to come back every weekend to dance in the park.
After months of being locked inside, the last day of the series coincided with the first day of Summer. The weather cooperated (sans a little wind) and we took it to the mat outdoors. Read the rest of this entry →
Maybe I should be writing about Endless Shoes rather than FitFlops, as the benefit of the latter is still unknown at this writing. But let me tell you, Endless Shoes wins on outstanding performance and truly OVERNIGHT DELIVERY!
End of the summer and end of the season of outdoor training….at least for me!A little nippy at 7:00am, but the group worked their butts off and actually forgot the chill in the air. Read the rest of this entry →
We Do It Big with Stability Balls – that is! Stability balls challenge and therefore, help to develop core strength, balance and control. I like to use them for all my workout routines but find particular good use for the tool when doing lunges, hamstring curls, pushups, planks and abdominal pikes.
