Rest? You Rust! So Move!

A teacher/trainer/friend shared this video link this morning and while letting the water boil for coffee I was captured sLes 7 doigts de la main  completely by the performance. You will be too when you see it. Most of us will think, oh this is impossible for me to do. Might be. Yes, the performers are professionals and if working your body with consistency, focused attention and commitment can change your one step forward to be just a little lighter, than you will be doing all that is necessary for you – at this time.

Stuff I Love and Use

onlineshop_0 So, as many of you know, this fall is bringing quite a few changes to my life, the way of working and way of sharing information with you. My new studio opens after Labor Day and gives me a new way of working out with each of you. I can’t tell you how excited I am about the possibilities I envision will take place in this space. Sometimes the excitement is too much for words.

Prior to that opening, (watch the countdown in the corner, yeah, over there to the right), I will also open up my FitnessShoppe as a member of OpenSky to sell only the products, tools and resources that I love and use in my life and my fitness regimens. Read the rest of this entry →

Its Coming!

All I will say is watch the countdown, follow the link (by clicking on the clock) and add your name to the list.  Something new is coming to all my sites and if you add your name to the list, you may win a prize.  We cannot say what the prize is, but I will say it won’t be small!

This is going to be good.  Very Good!

Delicious Clean Eating at the Green Kitchen!

If you think health and fitness are only about throwing the weights around, riding or running for cardio and tuna-chimole  sweating through that hot yoga class, believe me you are missing 90% of the point.  What you put in your body is as important and crucial to your body as moving it.  For that reason, since I love flavors with my clean food I am SCREAMING about the goodness of the new Chimole Salad the Green Kitchen has prepared with fresh fish. Last Day of June Summer Fitness

Spirited day and a spirited month.  Denise and Mike finally joined us and Soni took Mahesh’s place; several were June Summer Fitness  missing in action, but the group that showed on the last full day of June’s Summer Fitness in the park were on!

We tried something new (a surefire repeat, I might add) Jumping Jacks with an ankle resistance band. Whew!  Check the video.

Pilates Mat with TRX Suspension

suspendedcrisscross I guess you can tell from my blog entries of late, that I have been playing around with another tool for core training in the past few months, using the TRX Suspension Trainer with both my personal workouts, my private strength/resistance clients and now my Pilates Mat students.

Defying gravity with a new challenge is making all of us stronger, sleeker and determined to continue using the tool.   The tool permits a full and complete range of motion throughout a workout, which in turn creates a more functional, safer and more successful method of training.  Read the rest of this entry →

Very Cool!

core_0 Very cool, I think, for making so much heat and fire inside.  Just a few of my friends, neighbors and students doing what we do when “we” workout.

Inside, outside, group or private, using the core abdominal to perform every activity is the best way to stay fired up and ready to work, burn and move.

What does your workout look like?

Challenging Weights Necessary

Plain and simple.  No need to say anything more.  Do we get it? Treadmill-Running

THE FACTS

Lifting heavy weights makes you big and bulky — or at least that’s the conventional wisdom. It’s the reason many women (and some men) who want slim and “toned” physiques opt for lighter weights, lifted more times.

But the notion is not supported by science. Producing bulky muscles requires not just heavy weights but heavy calorie consumption as well, typically far above the 2,000 daily calories recommended for many adults. Read the rest of this entry →

60 min x 7 Days

Outdoor-Running That is the magic number:  Women should work out 60 minutes a day, seven days a week, to maintain a normal weight over their lifetime.

Not from my mouth; although I have personally noted the fact and been blogging about for the past 3-5 years, as well as advising my friends/clients at the peri-/post-menopausal age  that it takes a “whole lot of moving and doing” to keep my body the way I like it to feel and look!

Anyway, back to the statistical study reference, which interestingly comes at the end of Women’s Month 2010! Read the rest of this entry →
