Side Sit-Ups on the Ball  side_sit_upsTo work the obliques, I highly recommend everyone learn to do Side Situps, either with the chair in the gym or as shown in the images below with the use of the stability ball.  This exercise will lengthen the torso, trim the waistline and works the internal and external obliques and spinal erectors - all part of our core.

The original articles appears on TheStrengthClub.Net with images to support your ability to perform the work correctly.

Set up Foot Placement as shown by placing your top leg straight forward from the hip.   The bottom leg is slightly bent (as shown) and the important part is that you keep the hips aligned.  Now, let's go to work!

  1. Engage the abdominal, breathing front to back as you lie over the ball.  Inhale to initiate
  2. Exhale to lift the body, using the obliques.  Perform 2-3 Sets and complete 8-10 reps as a Beginner.  Go for 12-15 for more intensity.
  3. Hang over the ball to stretch.  Release your top arm to reach toward the floor to deepen the stretch thru the side of your body.  Breathe and enjoy.
